Biodegradable Water Burial
The Journey Earthurn is perfect for water burial. Once on the ocean floor it will break down naturally.

Biodegradable Ground Burial
Journey Earthurns are fabricated by hand from recycled and eco-friendly paper which breaks down naturally" when buried. They are durable, with no "shelf life" and will NOT begin to biodegrade until they are buried in the ground. Each Earthurn included an EPA-approved, biodegradable plastic bag.

Journey Earthurns are perfect for scattering. They open easily to facilitate the scattering process. Families that plan on purchasing a Journey Earthurn for scattering over water should be advised to remove the biodegradable bag with the cremated remains from the urn and place only the bag in the water. The bag will dissolve, dispersing the cremated remains, and the Earthurn can be kept for the storage of personal mementos. Each urn is handmade and may vary slightly in appearance.

The Environment
Earthurns are manufactured with the environment in mind. The tree bark used to make the paper is harvested from the mulberry tree in such a way that the tree continues to grow, undamaged. This sustainable process is centuries old and ensures the preservation of ancient forests.
Once the bark of the tree is harvested, it is soaked until soft and then laid out on to bamboo screens where floral materials are inlaid by hand. The screens are then placed in the sun to dry. The resulting paper is used to make beautiful and environmentally-friendly urns.

Burial at the lake

Reviewed By: KATHY on 07/17/2011

This urn was a godsend to make me feel more comfortable with scattering my daughter's ashes in a favoirte lake. It was wonderful not having to see or touch the ashes.
NOTE: I had it upright in the car and the boat until the moment I placed it on the lake. It immediately flipped to being vertical and went down like the Titanic in only 2 minutes. I think it would have been better to shake it so the contents were evenly distributed in a HORIZONTAL position. It probably would have floated nicely for the a few more minutes before it decended. The manufacturer might want to put instructions in with the product.

For My Future Burial/Scatter

Reviewed By: Lori on 01/17/2013

I always knew I wanted to be cremated from an early age. I've talked openly about this. My brother in law passed on Christmas morning (2012) and at that point I knew I had to get better prepared. I was talking with my son and his vision was to take a boat out on the river (my 2nd home) and then scatter my ashes. I thought it was a fabulous idea. I immediately found Perfect Memorials and this biodegradable urn. Perfect!! It's bigger than I thought. I have it stored away for when the time comes to use it. Hopefully, not for a very long time. Glad this part of my preparation is done.

Recommended for water burials...

Reviewed By: Jason on 05/28/2014

We purchased this biodegradable urn to commit my father's remains in his favorite High Sierra lake. It allowed us to provide a fitting final resting place while not disturbing a pristine location, while also being discreet.

We did have a similar situation as another commenter in that when we placed the Journey Earthurn in the water, it turned to a vertical position and submerged in about a minute. We tried shaking the contents to even them out horizontally first, but it didn't seem to work.

Nonetheless, we are pleased with this product, and I plan on purchasing it again for future needs.
