About Stainless Steel Cremation Urn Series

Strong, durable, and affordable, stainless steel has become an increasingly popular metal for everything from wedding jewelry to kitchen appliances. A stainless steel urn captures these same qualities in an attractive and respectful way. Most urns made of this metal have a shiny brushed silver finish, and they will not rust or stain easily.

What Is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is an alloy that combines several different metals, most notably iron and chromium. The chromium is what makes the steel “stainless," preventing it from tarnishing and rusting. Most people are familiar with this metal from its use in kitchen appliances, where it can provide a beautiful, shiny surface that won't be damaged by everyday exposure to water.

In recent years, stainless steel has become a more and more popular choice for a range of both practical and decorative items. It has become an increasingly common option for jewelry, even for special items like wedding rings. Stainless steel cremation urns are also growing in popularity, with vase and cube urns available.

Before You Choose an Urn

Stainless steel urns are available in a number of sizes and shapes, so you should be able to find one that meets your needs. Take a look at our special guide, How To Choose The Right Cremation Urn, for helpful information on the different types of urns and urn sizing. The type of urn you choose will depend in part on what you plan on doing with the ashes, particularly if you plan on burying them or placing them in a columbarium niche. You'll also want to make sure that the stainless steel urn you select is large enough to hold all of the cremains that you plan to keep there.

Personalizing an Urn

In most cases, a stainless steel urn can be personalized with custom engraving. The amount and size of the engraving will depend on the specific urn style and shape. Please call our friendly customer service team at 1-800-979-8767 with any questions that you may have about engraving.

If you would prefer not to have the urn directly engraved, you may want to consider adding an urn medallion, a photo plaque, or an urn stand to your display. These products can all have custom engraving added.

Choosing the right size urn

Try finding an urn with our easy cremation urn finder.

Choosing the right size urn is easy. For every one pound before cremation you will need 1 cubic inch of volume. For example, a loved one weighing 200 pounds will need an urn that is at least 200 cubic inches or larger. Choosing an urn larger then you need is OK.
