What Is Cremation Jewelry?
Following the cremation of a loved one, many people are unsure of the best way to store or share the ashes. Rather than burying or placing all of the cremains in one large urn, cremation jewelry is a perfect way to share the ashes with family or friends who may want to keep a small portion and to carry your loved one with you always.
Urn jewelry is designed to hold a small portion of cremains, a lock of hair, a pinch of burial soil, or a few petals of dried memorial flowers. Most jewelry will hold about ½ pinch of cremains, with the exception of the cylinder-shaped jewelry, which will hold about one pinch of cremains.
Perfect Memorials offers unique cremation jewelry to fit any budget, from simple pieces under $10 to the most exquisite designs made with precious metals and gemstones. With so many choices and engravable styles, you're certain to find a piece of custom cremation jewelry that will match your style and honors your loved one
Filling and Caring for Cremation Jewelry
Many people who consider buying jewelry for ashes are uncertain of how those ashes will be placed inside. The process is really quite simple.
Included with each order is a fill kit that you can use to fill the piece with cremains, hair, soil, or burial flowers. Whether you choose a ring, charm, or one of our pendants for ashes, each piece of cremation jewelry has a small screw-type opening, which you can open by twisting with your fingers or with a small provided screwdriver, depending on the design. Use the funnel that comes with the kit to add the ashes or other memento. A small toothpick can help you guide the cremains through the funnel and into the cremains chamber. The toothpick can also be used to remove any cremains in the threads of the opening.
Most styles of cremation jewelry are designed with a secure seal; however, we recommend that you use glue to permanently seal the piece. Simply apply adhesive to the screw before re-inserting it into the opening, then twist to close tightly and wipe off any excess. Glue typically takes 24 hours to cure.
Do not wear your cremation jewelry while bathing, sleeping, or during any strenuous activity. Further care instructions will be included with your order.
If you want someone to help you fill your cremation jewelry, simply call your local funeral home or crematory. Most funeral service professionals will be happy to assist you for free or for a small fee. Please do not send cremains to Perfect Memorials. Choosing the right size urn is easy. For every one pound before cremation you will need 1 cubic inch of volume. For example, a loved one weighing 200 pounds will need an urn that is at least 200 cubic inches or larger. Choosing an urn larger then you need is OK.
