Child and Baby Urns

About Child and Baby Urns

There are few losses more difficult than the death of a child. Finding a respectful and meaningful urn can often bring a small measure of peace to a family. Perfect Memorials has a range of beautiful baby urns to choose from in many different styles.

While there are specific urns for babies and children, any urn that makes you feel closer to your child is a good choice. Stone, ceramic, and metal vase urns are popular choices for loved ones of any age. You will have a smaller volume of cremains for a child than you will for an adult, but it's perfectly acceptable to select an urn that has extra space inside.

Common Themes for Urns for Children and Babies

Some of the most common themes for children and baby urns are children's blocks, angels, teddy bears, and hearts. An image may be engraved or painted onto the urn, or the infant urn itself may be in the shape of the item. Angel urns often include a child angel or an angel with a child. Other options include religious symbols, butterflies, and flowers.

One option that you might want to consider is a soft teddy bear urn. These cremation urns for babies are made to be held and hugged, which can provide a little comfort to a grieving family. The bears include a small zippered opening and a bag so that the cremains can be placed inside. Because they are keepsake urns, they may only be able to hold a small portion of the cremains.

Infant Urn Sizes

Baby urns are smaller than adult urns, some holding just a few cubic inches of cremains. It's important to know the volume of the cremains that you wish to place into the urn; one cubic inch is about equal to one pound of weight before cremation. If you plan to share the ashes or scatter them, you may want to choose a keepsake baby urn that holds only a small portion.

Child and Baby Urn Personalization

You can add custom engraving to urns for children and babies, in most cases. Because infant urns are smaller, there may only be space for a few lines of engraving. Soft teddy bear urns can also be personalized with a small fabric patch.

Choosing the right size urn is easy. For every one pound before cremation you will need 1 cubic inch of volume. For example, a loved one weighing 200 pounds will need an urn that is at least 200 cubic inches or larger. Choosing an urn larger then you need is OK.
