Our sculpture cremation urns have a highly detailed carved figure on top, making them wonderful options for some fathers. This section highlights some of our most popular urns for ashes for Dad, but don't miss our beautiful cremation urns in other categories as well.

Choosing Dad's Urn

A good way to narrow down your choices when deciding between urns for Dad is to think about those activities or interests that remind you of him. Our Heavenly Creations urns include sculptures of fishermen, golfing equipment, motorcycles, and more. If Dad was regularly involved with his church, you might consider one of our religious urns, which include images of angels, crosses, and praying hands, among others. We also offer a wide selection of sports-themed urns, book and library urns, and police and military urns.

If you'll be sharing your father's ashes among other family members, consider purchasing one of our keepsake urns for Dad. Keepsake and sharing urns are smaller than full-size urns for Dad and only hold a portion of cremains. Depending on the size you choose, these urns hold between 1 cubic inch to about 50 cubic inches of ashes, so it's important to know the amount of cremains you plan to keep before choosing your urn. Each cubic inch is equal to about one pound of healthy weight, or about 1 tablespoon of cremains.

This sizing information is important for full-size urns for ashes for Dad as well. Each urn in our collection includes a volume measurement so that you'll know right away if the urn is large enough to hold all of the cremains. While "cubic inches equals pounds" formula is still valid, it's a good idea to choose an urn for Dad that's a little larger than what you think you need. There's no harm in having a little extra space inside the urn, but you could run into problems if you have more cremains than you expected and the urn is too small to hold them.

Personalized Engraving

Most urns for Dad can be personalized with custom engraving. It's always a good idea to include information about the deceased on the urn — especially if the urn will be displayed during a memorial service, buried, or placed in a columbarium. This allows your father's ashes to be easily identified if the urn is out of your possession or accidentally misplaced. Typically, you can include at least 3 lines of text on the urn, including the deceased's name and dates, and often a brief message. If your Dad's urn cannot be engraved, which is often the case for those made of glass or other fragile materials, you can order an engraved urn medallion or urn pendant to hang on the urn.

Choosing the right size urn

Choosing the right size urn is easy. For every one pound before cremation you will need 1 cubic inch of volume. For example, a loved one weighing 200 pounds will need an urn that is at least 200 cubic inches or larger. Choosing an urn larger then you need is OK.
